# Chaim Freedman, February 2020

The Komisaruk family report that replaces Eliyahu's Branches. It goes up through the women like FamilySearch's tree, calls Khana's father Berel, and puts in Felix's branch details the documents contradict: it gives him children named Moshe and Katya, leaves out Alejandro and makes Aida the daughter of an Avraham.

It is Freedman's fullest version on the Komisaruks: 236 pages, with notes saying where each fact comes from, and Lithuanian and Ukrainian records the 1997 book did not have. For the Komisaruks themselves it is the best source there is.

For the two women through whom this family would enter the other branches, however, it repeats the earlier version, because it did not yet have the full patronymics of the 1858 census. And Felix's branch reached it, almost certainly, through the oral tradition of other branches: it gives Felix children no document names, leaves out Alejandro and makes Aida the daughter of an Avraham of whom there is no trace. Aida is also given as dying in 1990; the family gives 1992.

- **Khana Reizel** — father: Dov-Ber (Berel) Komisaruk; mother: Esther Leib — CONTRADICTED by a document. Daughter of Berel and Ester, sister of Shlomo-Zalmen. The 1858 census calls her a daughter of Zalka, and Freedman himself corrected it eight months later. (The 1858 census)
- **Dvorka** — father: Mordechai Yovel; mother: Ita — CONTRADICTED by a document. “Deverah Yovel, born c.1830 in Plunge, daughter of Mordekhai (Marek) Yovel [1788–1831] and Ita”. The 1858 census calls her daughter of Aba, and gives her age as 20. (The 1858 census)
- **Avraham Zhmood/Smud** — father: Koppel Zhmood; mother: Dvorka — unverified. “Avraham Zhmood/Smud”, Koppel's son, with no details at all. He appears in no other source. (The Komisaruk family, according to Freedman (February 2020))
- **Aida Smud** — father: Avraham Zhmood/Smud; mother: not named — CONTRADICTED by a document. Daughter of that Avraham, died 1990. She travelled in 1904 with Malke and her brothers, Felix's sons. (The 1904 immigration register)
- **Moshe (Misha) Zhmood** — father: Felix Smud; mother: Malke Noel — unverified. “Moshe (Misha) Zhmood”, with no date, place or source. He may be Alejandro remembered under another name. (The Komisaruk family, according to Freedman (February 2020))
