Ekaterinoslav was the Russian Empire province where Novy Zlatopol and the other Jewish agricultural colonies in which the family settled after leaving the Baltic were located.
The Russian Empire provinces that appear in this story —Ekaterinoslav, Taurida, Vitebsk— no longer exist under those names. Their territory is now divided between Ukraine, Latvia and Belarus.
