The 1899 Mariupol birth record names Ester Malka's father: his name was Meyer. The record gives no surname, and no trace of him has yet turned up in the databases consulted.

The name is all we know about him. His grandson’s birth record, entered at the Mariupol synagogue in 1899, names the boy’s mother as Ester Malka and identifies her father as Meyer. It does not give the surname of that branch, and so far none of the databases consulted returns anything that can be attributed to him.
It is worth recording anyway, for two reasons. He is the only ancestor on the maternal side who appears in a document —everything else about the Noel family comes from family memory—, and his is the name Ashkenazi custom would explain: the child registered in that same record was named Meyer.
