Granddaughter of the Vilna Gaon
Esther Leib
Granddaughter of Eliyahu ben Shlomo Zalman, the Vilna Gaon. According to Chaim Freedman's reconstruction she is Khana Reizel's mother, and through her this family would connect with the Gaon's descendants; that link is not documented.
Documented1785 – 1860
Her father, Yehuda Leib, was a son of the Vilna Gaon. In the 2020 update, Freedman calls her Ester, gives 1777 as her year of birth and presents her as the wife of Dov-Ber (Berel) Komisaruk.
That her daughter is the Khana Reizel who married David Zmud and went with him to the southern colonies is Freedman’s proposal, based on the families’ oral tradition. No known document confirms it yet.
